GENERAL

The 6th Meeting on Current Ideas in Mechanics and Related Fields, CIMRF-2001, was held at the Institute of  Theoretical Physics, Technical University of  Berlin.  The program of the conference included a number of invited lectures as well as contributed papers. Like the previous CIMRF meetings this symposium was concerned with broadly understood applications of mathematics and mathematical techniques in the field of mechanics, including, analytical and continuum mechanics.  A special one day session was organized to celebrate  the 65-th birthday of Professor Wolfgang Muschik.  The emphasis of this special session was on modeling in liquid crystals, theories of ordered media, and the  foundations of thermodynamics .
