Abstract: The completion of a classification of finite simple groups was announced in 1980s, and recently the main gap in its proof was filled by Aschbacher and Smith. As a next step several proposals were made to classify various finite combinatorial or geometrical objects with high symmetry or regularities. In this talk I give a brief introduction of distance-regular graphs, some recent developments and algebras associated to them.
