Eugene Enneking Doctoral Fellowship

Fariborz Maseeh Department of Mathematics and Statistics
Portland State University

Fariborz Maseeh Department of Mathematics and Statistics announces a competition for the Eugene Enneking Doctoral Fellowship. The fellowship is designed to attract and retain outstanding graduate students seeking a Ph.D. in Mathematical Sciences at Portland State University. The fellowship is a part of the recent $3.9 million gift from alumnus and entrepreneur Fariborz Maseeh to develop an outstanding computational mathematics and statistics program at Portland State University and to promote partnerships for research and innovation.p>

Eligibility: Applicants must be either students seeking admission to our Ph.D. in Mathematical Sciences program or full-time graduate students pursuing a Ph.D. in Mathematical Sciences. In particular, we seek outstanding students who plan to or are already specializing in the areas of mathematics and statistics applied to health sciences, finance/business, general sciences or engineering and computer science. Special consideration will be given to candidates interested in computational mathematics and statistics, but applicants in other areas of research will also be considered. The selection will be based upon merit rather than applicant’s current or potential scientific interests. The fellowship is generally awarded to students with a GPA of at least 3.5.p>

Awards: Up to three fellowships of $20,000 per academic year plus tuition remission will be awarded. Each initial award will be made for up to two years with the possibility of renewal for the second and/or third year. The renewal of the fellowship will require a re-application and will be reviewed with other applicants for the award.

Application procedure:Applicants should submit: (1) a written application for the fellowship (students applying concurrently for the admission to the Ph.D. program should clearly state why they would like to study at PSU and should list up to three faculty members they would possibly like to do the Ph.D. with), (2) a current vitae, (3) a copy of all academic transcripts, and (4) at least two letters of recommendation, on or before January 15, 2012 to
