Course Information (Syllabus)

Course Description:

This is the first part of the one-year advanced numerical analysis sequence (651-652-653) offered at PSU. The sequence is primarily designed for the math graduate students who are interested in the theory of numerical approximation and its application in other science and engineering fields. 

Pre-requisite:

Math 552 is required. Strong programming skills with C++ or Matlab is also preferred for this sequence.  

Text Book:

·  Introduction to Numerical Analysis (3rd Edition), by J. Stoer and R. Bulirsch.

Grading Policy:

There will be several homework assignment and two course projects. Your final grade will be computed as follows:

Homework: 70%; Course project: 30%

Homework and Project:

Three separate homework assignment will be given at appropriate time and posted on the course webpage.

Two course projects will be assigned and a programming language (C, C++ or Matlab) is required for the project.
