NOTES

The main goal of the course is to introduce you to basic abstract algebra, in particular the theory of groups.  This theory is used throughout mathematics to understand the structure underlying many problems.  A second but very important objective is to sharpen your reasoning skills.  The axiomatic approach followed in this course will facilitate your understanding not only of moreadvanced mathematics but also of other disciplines.
